NOISY OR ROUGH DOOR?

Start with an inspection.

Noise and inconsistent movement can come from dry hardware or from worn parts that need repair. We check the system before recommending the next step.

COMMON WARNING SIGNS

Signs a garage door may need maintenance

These symptoms often respond to inspection and lubrication, but they can also indicate damage that requires repair. An inspection identifies which one applies.

Squeaking or grinding

Dry rollers, hinges or tracks can create squeaks as the door moves. The sound can also come from worn parts that need inspection rather than lubrication alone.

Rattling or vibration

Loose hardware, worn rollers or an opener that is working harder than it should can produce rattling. A tune-up looks for the source instead of treating only the noise.

Rough or uneven movement

A door that hesitates, binds or travels unevenly may need lubrication and adjustment, or it may indicate a roller, track or balance problem.

Inconsistent operation

A door that sometimes opens smoothly and other times struggles can point to friction, balance issues or an opener that is compensating for a door problem.

WHAT THE VISIT INCLUDES

Inspection, lubrication and safety checks

A tune-up evaluates the parts that guide and balance the door, then applies appropriate lubrication where it helps. We also test the opener safety sensors and reversal response so the door and opener are checked together.

A tune-up does not include replacement parts or major repairs. If we find worn rollers, a cable issue, a spring problem or an opener fault, we explain the finding and provide a separate price before any additional work begins.

✓ Rollers, hinges and track inspection

✓ Cable and spring visual condition check

✓ Door balance evaluation

✓ Appropriate lubrication of moving hardware

✓ Hardware tightness and alignment checks

✓ Opener safety-sensor and reversal testing

WHEN REPAIR IS NEEDED

Maintenance is not a substitute for repair

Lubrication can reduce noise from dry hardware, but it will not fix every noisy door. These conditions usually need professional repair rather than a routine tune-up.

Broken or weak springs

A heavy door or visible gap in a spring coil points to a spring problem. Springs remain under significant tension and should be inspected before the door is used again. See spring repair.

Damaged cables or off-track doors

A loose cable, crooked door or roller outside the track is a repair issue. Continued operation can increase damage. See our cable and off-track repair service.

Opener problems

An opener that hums, reverses or does not respond needs diagnosis of the controls, sensors and door movement. Learn more about opener repair.

HOMEOWNER QUESTIONS

Tune-up and maintenance FAQ

How often should a garage door be tuned up?

Many residential doors benefit from a maintenance visit once a year, or sooner if the door becomes noisy, rough or inconsistent. Frequency depends on how often the door is used and the condition of the hardware.

Will lubrication stop a noisy garage door?

Not always. Dry rollers or hinges are a common source of noise, but worn rollers, loose hardware, track contact or a balance problem can also cause noise. Lubrication is only one part of the inspection.

What kind of lubrication is appropriate?

We use lubricant suited to the moving hardware that needs it. Manufacturers generally advise against heavy grease on rollers and tracks where it can attract dirt. We follow the condition of the door and applicable manufacturer guidance.

Does a tune-up include opener safety checks?

Yes. We test the safety sensors and the opener's reversal response as part of evaluating how the door and opener work together.

What if the door needs more than maintenance?

If we find worn or damaged parts, a spring or cable issue, or an opener problem, we explain the finding and the repair options before any additional work. Replacement parts and major repairs are not included in the tune-up and require a separate price and your approval.
